The What, Why and How

Shepherd of the Mountains

Who We Are...

Shepherd of the Mountains is a community of Jesus followers and spiritual seekers encouraging each other to love God, love others, and live like Jesus.

We are committed to growing as Jesus' followers through:

  1. Worship – we enjoy communal experiences of worship and try to cultivate a culture that glorifies God in all we do and are.

  2. Discipleship – we practice a “learning” lifestyle so that our lives enter the story of God

  3. Relationships - we strive to build each other up in love.

  4. Caring in love for our community in their times of joy, celebration, struggle, trial, or need.

  5. We are committed to discipling others through a desire of sharing our lives in Christ with others.

  6. A passion for that which is close to the heart of God, that being, those who are suffering in the world.

  7. Sacrificial Service to the community through our connections within Cascade and the Greater Valley County.

What We Do

Worship – we enjoy communal experiences of worship and try to cultivate a culture that glorifies God in all we do and are, through:

  • Regular worship experiences/services honoring the Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran heritage as well as utilizing a variety of formats and music (both traditional hymnody and contemporary hymns and songs)

  • An intentional practice of involvement of every member of our congregation in the practice of worship.

  • Training and encouraging in lifestyle worship (Romans 12:1-2) for every disciple of Jesus in our congregation.

  • We are involved in the Cascade Community Choir.  Bill Leaf, one of Shepherd of the Mountains elders is its Director.

  • Our Worship service is at 8:30am every Sunday as well as throughout the year at special services during the season of Lent, Advent, etc.

Discipleship – we are committed to a “learning” lifestyle that seeks not only growth in biblical knowledge but also the application of the biblical story into our lives (so that our lives enter the story of God). We do that through:

  • Bible and Biblically focused topical studies with a specific focus on life application and transformation.

  • These learning opportunities explore our identity in Christ – our calling and giftedness.

  • These learning opportunities are focused on teaching us to be disciple-makers and to join the mission of God.

  • These learning opportunities also teach us to be good stewards of the gifts of God.

  • Currently, our Bible Studies are on Thursday mornings.

Relationships - we are committed to a relational lifestyle that builds up the Body of Christ in love.  We do that through:

  • Activities and programs that build relationships that reflect the love of Jesus.

  • Care for our community in their times of joy, celebration, struggle, trial, or need.

  • Involvement in a Soup and Scripture ministry with other Cascade churches as we minister to middle and high school students in our community.

  • Involvement in the Cascade Food Pantry serving those with hunger needs in our community.

Faithful to the Great Commission of Jesus (Matthew 28:18ff) - we are committed to joining God's Mission.  We do that through:

  • A desire and discipline of sharing our lives in Christ with others.  We build relationships in our lives for the purpose of sharing all of who we are in Christ.

  • A passion for that which is close to the heart of God, that being, those who are suffering in the world.  We will examine local, state, national and international opportunities for living our lives on a mission for the Kingdom of God.  We realize that Jesus commands us to “BE the Church” in the world….because of that, we will look for opportunities to be the Church wherever God leads.

  • Caring in love for people in our community in their times of joy, celebration, struggle, trial, or need.

  • Making the facilities of our congregation available to the community to serve the call of Jesus Christ.

  • Identifying local causes that enable us to partner with our community and our areas of influence to meet specified needs in the name of Jesus Christ.

  • We will continue to share our giftedness as individuals and as a church body in a manner that will build relational bridges with the community at large.

The Vision of Shepherd of the Mountains

We envision a ministry environment as a faith community/congregation where EVERY PERSON understands and lives out the fact that we are alive in Jesus Christ and that we are called and gifted by God to be difference makers within our ministry footprint and realm of responsibility.  Our vision is to ignite a holy passion that will cause an unstoppable movement of God in our midst where people themselves involved in God’s purposes.   That’s why we need to be clear:

• Every member a growing Disciple, Committed Christian

• Every member joins in God's Mission to the community

• Every member is faithful Worshipper

• Every member is a Steward of the Gifts of God
